About Dr. Swati Rautela
Dr. Swati Rautela is a head of the Department of Law at the University of Mumbai. With a career marked by extensive contributions to legal academia, she has coordinated several prestigious programs, including the UGC Human Resource Development Centre’s Online Refresher Course on “Changing Dimensions of Social and Economic Justice in India.” Additionally, she has organized and collaborated on international events, such as the Australia-India Workshop on Comparative Legal Processes, and presented research on topics like governance and sustainable development at various conferences. About Dr. Sanjay Aparanti
Dr. Sanjay Aparanti, a retired Superintendent of Police, has an extensive background in law enforcement and social justice advocacy. He began his career in 1992 as an Assistant Commissioner of Police, serving in roles such as ACP Nashik City, DCP Mumbai City, and eventually Superintendent of Police in Nandurbar. Dr. Aparanti played a pivotal role in tackling issues like human trafficking, domestic violence, and the shutdown of dance bars exploiting trafficked women.
Following his 23 years of service, he now leads the Retired Officers’ Welfare Organization for North Maharashtra and directs the Aparanti Academy, supporting marginalized communities in civil service exam preparation. His academic qualifications span medicine (MBBS, MD), sociology, criminology, political science, economics, law (LLB), and human rights law (LLM). His current efforts include conducting workshops on caste-based discrimination, aiming to advance human rights advocacy through legal reforms and potentially pursuing a PhD focused on social policy.

About Dr. Shailesh Kumar
Dr. Shailesh Kumar is a Lecturer and Module Convenor in the Department of Law and Criminology at Royal Holloway, University of London. Since joining in September 2023, he has led courses on Criminal Law and Contract Law. He previously held positions at the University of East London, SOAS, and Birkbeck, University of London, where he taught modules ranging from Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Process to Constitutional and Administrative Law.
Dr. Kumar completed his Ph.D. at Birkbeck, University of London, focusing on access to justice and legal reforms surrounding child sexual abuse under India’s POCSO Act. His thesis received commendation, passing without corrections. His academic journey includes an M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University and an LL.M. from NALSAR University of Law, with a notable undergraduate degree in law from Chanakya National Law University, Patna.
A prolific author, Dr. Kumar has contributed to various prestigious journals and edited volumes, addressing themes of juvenile justice, penal reform, and courtroom architecture. His research is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach, examining the socio-legal impacts of justice reforms and the dynamics of law in child protection. Dr. Kumar’s current research projects, funded by Royal Holloway, explore judicial diversity and the intersectional challenges of reporting child sexual abuse in India and the UK.
He has presented his work at numerous international conferences, including those held by the Law and Society Association, and his thought leadership extends into public discourse through contributions to media outlets such as The Hindu and ThePrint. Nikhil Sanjay-Rekha Adsule is an accomplished researcher and educator with a prominent international profile, currently a Senior Research Fellow and PhD scholar at IIT Delhi, and a Dr. Ambedkar International Fellow with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
